About me

Hello friends, welcome to my blog!

My name is Stella and I’m a food blogger, food photographer, content creator, wife, and devoted dog mom.

I’m a SoCal based food lover with a passion for sharing flavorful, authentic, and easy-to-follow recipes. There are a variety of recipes that I share on this website, but the majority of them are Mexican, Korean, and Cuban.

I come from a multicultural family, and I was exposed to my cultures mostly through food. My mother is from Busan, South Korea and my father is from Guadalajara, Mexico. Most of my recipes are from these cuisines and passed down through family.

While I do share Cuban recipes, I am not actually Cuban myself. My late grandfather, to whom I am not blood-related, was from Cuba and raised my father as his own. We called him “Pipo,” and he was the cook in our family. Pipo was an excellent cook. I grew up eating a lot of his food, and I love recreating & sharing those recipes with you here.

Stellanspice FAQ’s

What does stellanspice mean and how did you come up with the name?

“Stellanspice” is a play on the popular phrase “sugar & spice.” Although I don’t consider myself to be a particularly sweet person, it made sense to pair my name with the word “spice” because I love my food flavored & spicy!

It’s the perfect name right?! So cute and clever. My younger sister Maria (love you!) is the one who came up with it.

Do you have a cookbook?

Not yet! I have plans to release one for sure, but there isn’t anything set in stone yet. I want my first cookbook to be special and well worth your hard-earned money, so I am taking my time on developing my best recipes yet! If you want to make sure you don’t miss any announcements or the launch of my cookbook, make sure you subscribe to my newsletter.

Do you have any culinary training or professional experience?

I am not a professionally trained chef, but cooking is my greatest passion in life! I am continuously educating myself and sharpening my skills in the kitchen, testing recipes almost every day.

I’m often asked why I didn’t go to culinary school or pursue a career as a chef, and my answer is very simple; I cannot handle the heat, so I stay out out of the kitchen!

I have an immense amount of respect for professional chefs and cooks. I worked front-of-house positions in the restaurant industry for a very long time, so I’ve spent enough time in the back-of-house (kitchen) to know how demanding and stressful that job can be. I knew it wasn’t for me, so I am extremely thankful to have a different path & career in the culinary field.

What was your job before you became a food blogger?

Before I became a food blogger, I was an accountant during the week and a bartender on the weekends. I was an accountant for only a couple of years after university (I really disliked working a corporate job), but I was a bartender for over 12 years! I really enjoyed my time working in the service industry and I learned a lot.
